Happy Birthday Beppe!

Saturday (February 16th), we celebrated Beppe’s 84th birthday with her at the Woodland Villa. Aunt Brenda organized the event, complete with delicious stamppot boerenkool, cherry cheesecake and pumpkin mousse. It was very nice to celebrate the birthday of our very loved Mom & Beppe!

Visit last Sunday

Bill and I had such a nice little visit with Mom last Sunday.  When we got there Brenda was there with Jessica & John, Erin & Travis.  Mom was talking a lot, and even though we didn’t understand much of it, it was like she felt part of the group that’s so familiar to her and she wanted to contribute to the conversation.  It was nice to see her like that.  At one point she poked me in the ribs 3 times and said “Clare, Clare, Clare” then pointed to Erin who was being silly and making Beppe laugh.  I was so pleased that she said my name 3 times!  She still sort of knows me!

Another Video of Beppe

Hello everyone,

Deb asked if anyone had another video, well we do.

Check it out, we hope it works

Here is a cute picture of Beppe kissing little Mollie’s hand.

Beppe Singing

This was recorded at the beginning of the VanderVeen Christmas, at the Long Sault Villa. Beppe, Uncle Sid and Gail singing together. Sorry if it takes long to load in google, I don’t know if it is downsized enough for those without high-speed.
The song at the end was really nice, though I don’t have that one recorded. Maybe some else has that one?

Visit with Beppe

Yesterday I was able to go and see Beppe after church, since we were at my parent’s house for the weekend. I hadn’t seen her in awhile and I was a little afraid of how much worse she would be since I last saw her. To my amazement (and in a very good way!), she was definitely better than I expected. She was talking more than she was the last time and she laughed a lot more. Also, her panicky cry that she used to do is a lot less now! When my Dad walked in, she recognized him immediately and said “Ype”. We always re-introduce Brian to her (even though she was the first person that we told when we became engaged) and this time she looked at him and said “Hi Brian”. She also cracked a few jokes and laughed at them. It was very nice to see, for sure!

I also noticed that she seems to remember more than I thought she did. She told Mom that she wanted to go home to Friesland. We asked her if liked sailing in Friesland and she laughed and said “no”.

On a final note, she is really sweet to talk to. When Travis came to say hi to her, he kissed her and hugged her. When he was hugging her, Beppe leaned and kissed the back of his head.

A post in order to make this page more functional.

So to set the stage for what this page will (hopefully) be, I want to start the posting.

PLEASE NOTE: Every member of vanderveenfamily.net has access to post here! Please do! (see the “About Beppe’s Page” for more details)

When I was down last weekend and talking to Aunt Brenda, she had mentioned that there was a change in the medication for Beppe. (I am not sure if this is new news for anyone, it was for me.) Anyways, Aunt Brenda said that Beppe was crying less with this medication AND Aunt B actually had Beppe laughing like she used to! This is great to hear and I am sure that it was nice for her to see this side of Bep again.

So this was a kinda update, of sorts. (Through the grapevine; this was actually Aunt Brenda’s update).
